What the heck is going on with the rear-end in my car!? I guess we'll all find out together this Saturday as MustangCWO (Todd) will be on hand to help figure it out!

I had the gears replaced about 2000 miles ago, and recently started hearing an odd continuous noise from the back of the car at all speeds and under both accel/decel. Doh!

You're welcome to join us at the Miramar Auto Hobby Shop. This is an opportunity for folks to get a better understanding of how these things work, and what to do when they don't. We'll get started right at 9:00 a.m. when the shop opens.

The Auto Hobby Shop is across from the gas station near the Main Gate on Miramar Way at Kearney Villa Road. It's location #3 on the BASE MAP

Dude, I hope its not what happened with your as to mine. I had the same thing and it turned out bolts came loose and a few of the teeth on the gear were grinded off and chipped.

Thats ok I have a few teeth chipped in mine too. ( wonder how that happen) This is a perfect chance to upgrade to 4:10's and stronger axcels :)

IDK if I will be able to make it out to help. It's the wife's BDAY and we are gonna have another yard sale to try and get rid of some stuff.

Big Thanks to Todd, John, Eric, and Matt!

They had my car apart in record time. Todd set-up the dial indicator, and found the backlash was a little off. As we started to discuss options for adjusting it (by swapping shims between the two sides), we discovered the pinion bearing does not turn smoothly, and is the most likely cause of the noise.

Rather than try to fix it ourselves, I will take it back to the shop where I originally had the gears installed.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Who did the install? If you don't want to go public, I will understand. I personally would only take my car to one of two shops for gear install: SD Gear and Axle or Classic Performance Repair (CPR)

Thanks for all the HELP! This club always makes me so proud when a member is in need. I wasn't certain what we would find and wish it was a simple fix. Good luck with the repair shop and let us know how it goes.
