Road Trip to the Open Track Day at Chuckwalla!

I signed-up for the Team Shelby Open Track event this weekend at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway. I'm driving to the track tomorrow, camping on-site, then running my car on Sunday.

I know many of you wanted to go to this event, and this is an open invitation to join me. I would like to leave San Diego no later then 8am. That should get us there about halfway through the first session which goes until 1pm. The second session is scheduled from 2pm to 5pm.

Cost is $10 to watch. If you have a helmet, you will want to bring it, as I'm sure there will be folks willing to give you a ride around the track.

It is the desert. WeatherBug says 90 degrees + 14 percent humidity. Water, sun block, hats, chairs, and a cooler full of your favorite beverage. There is a restaurant on-site.

Meet up @ Bennigans in MV @ 7:30am
Rollout @ 8:00am

So, it looks like I'll be scouting this place solo?

Actually, Frank S is driving the track both days, so he went up there earlier today.

I'll post up a report, with pics (and maybe video), when I get back from vacation next Friday.

I did drive up Friday, got there bright and early Saturday, and had a fine time grinding rubber off the tires, creating clouds of brake pad dust, and burning gasoline at a prodigious rate. David will tell you about how it feels to get the "0 miles to empty" message and a stutter in the power noise when it's more than two miles back to the paddock. He's a good passenger: didn't tell me how sloppy I was even once, even though there was plenty of good reason.

The whole 95-degree process wore me out, used up too much of my resources, so I came home this morning (Hwys 371-79, very nice, -15 not so much) rather than do another day. Seems to me there were eight or so Mustangs there, and I think there will be more and different Mustangs today, including David's. I'm certain he will agree: a wonderful track and an easy-to-take driving experience for those who can manage it.

I have quite a few photos of the scene and my car on track, but it's kind of an uphill battle when my principal computer quit its job last week, and it's taking me some time to get back up to speed on the new one. Patience, please.
