K&N Filters has signed on to support the B.R.A.K.E.S. Teen Pro-Active Driving School presented by NHRA held at the Fairplex in Pomona, Calif. The school, which is provided free of charge to all participating teens and parents, provides behind-the-wheel training for young drivers in an effort to reduce the number of injuries and deaths that result from teen driver accidents.
“I have been a long time fan and friend of Doug’s and when I heard what he was doing with the B.R.A.K.E.S. program I knew I had to get K&N involved,” said Bob Harris, Corporate Race Account Manager for K&N. ”To see Doug take a tragedy in his life and turn it into a positive message, keeping everyone safe, is a great thing. Whenever possible we like to be involved with the youth and this is a great opportunity to show them that we encourage safe driving on the streets and keep racing at the track.”
The school, which is four hours long and includes both classroom instruction as well as hands-on training with professional driving instructors, is comprised of five different driving courses including a wet skid pad, a slalom course, accident avoidance, panic stops and a course that discourages driving with distractions. Held June 12 and 13, and December 11 and 12, there are two sessions each day and spots are still available for the December classes.
“K&N is the perfect company to get involved with us for the schools we’re doing in Pomona,” said the organization’s founder, Doug Herbert. “Since they’re based right down the road in Riverside and they are already very involved with the NHRA it was a perfect tie-in. We’re thrilled that they decided to support us and will help us bring the program back to California.”
Anyone interested in registering a teenager for the school, should visit www.putonthebrakes.org. Teenagers must already have their license or permit to register, and at least one parent or guardian must attend with the teenager.
