Mustang, Camaro, Challenger going 4cycl?

Speaking at the New York Auto Show, GM’s Vice Chairman Bob Lutz revealed that General Motors is considering a 4-cylinder engine for the new Chevrolet Camaro if fuel prices continue to hike. In particular, Lutz said that the drivetrain under consideration is the 260 Hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit from the Pontiac Solstice GXP. Now that made us think how V6 and V8-hungry American buyers would react to a 4-cylinder-powered muscle car, even if we’re talking about a modern, high-output, turbocharged unit. Our question is simple; would you prefer a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine over a naturally aspirated V6 unit with a similar output but with better fuel economy ratings and lower emissions on a Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro or Dodge Challenger?

How would you feel about this happening? I feel that the ricer world have new toys to mess with.

My personal opinion is if its going to be labeled a "Muscle Car" it has to have at least 8 cylinders.....I would never buy a Mustang or any other "Muscle Car" that had anything less, which should be evident by my current daily driver which if you don't know is a 2009 Shelby GT500 a real "Muscle Car".

Of course we will all be getting smoked by electric cars in the not so distant future......the electric motors their developing have insane amounts of torque for what they are.....

I think that Ford should do a SVO Mustang and use the Taurus SHO twin turbo V-6. Not a "muscle" car but it would be fun to drive.

I told you history repeats itself..... the 70's brought the gas crunch and they developed the 4 cylinder mustangs..... They have now went through all the special models from the classics leaving off with the latest Boss 302 that is similar in styling to the 70 version. so here is a glimpse of whats to come! OMFG NO!!

To be fair, the Mustang II was one of the best selling mustangs placed at just the right time and when the 302 was in it, possessed comparable performance for the day. Only when looking back does it look bad. And one of the most well balanced and favorably reviewed mustangs was the svo which had a turbo four cylinder but handled better, stopped better, and was pretty quick too. The only reason it failed was because of the yahoos who could only think about torque and straight line performance. If ford brought back the svo, I would be first in line to get one.
